Maritech Commissioning Works

Maritech Commissioning Works Ltd. is a team of engineers, energy and building systems specialists focused on commissioning new and existing buildings for successful, sustainable operations. Based in Moncton, we also have offices in Saint John and Halifax to serve all of Atlantic Canada.

Maritech specializes in the commissioning of mechanical, electrical and life safety systems in new and existing buildings. We also offer building optimization services for the commercial, institutional, and industrial marketplace.

As this month’s Member spotlight, we got to hear from Maritech Commissioning Works- Associate, Luc Dugas, P.Eng., CEM :

How many years have you been in this business?

I have been with Maritech for 9 years but working in the HVAC industry since 1995.

Why did you join BOMA?

To get a better understanding of the building management industry.

What's one thing - either industry-related or not - you learned in the last month?

Take time to plan for the long term. We easily get caught up in what needs to get done this week. Take time to plan what you are going to do next month or in 6 months.

What educational or business experiences best prepared you for your career?

My engineering degree from the Université de Moncton certainly provided a strong foundation, which makes me more of a technical guy. However, the “non-technical” experiences that come from sales, relationship building and business development taught me a lot as well.

What advice would you give to professionals coming in to the commercial industry?

Get to know the people in the industry – they will teach you what you need to know to be successful.

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be and why?

If you don’t like what you are doing, do something else. Staying stuck in a job or role you don’t like can only harm other parts of your life.

What's your favourite movie and why?

Probably the Star Wars series – its something from my childhood that I can share with my son.

How do you define success?

Our role as commissioning providers is to pull together all stakeholders to make a building operate better: contractors, designers, owners, etc. When these people are happy to see you on a project because they know you made their last one better, it is a great feeling.
